A.        GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

            Members of the Board of Directors of The Arc of Augusta have a responsibility to all clients and             potential clients with an intellectual and /or developmental disability in the community to             advocate for services and promote community awareness.  Board Members must recognize their             fiduciary responsibility to The Arc of Augusta in addition to providing leadership and guidance to staff     members.

 

B.        MISSION OF THE ARC OF AUGUSTA:

            The Arc of Augusta, is committed to education, advocacy and providing services for people with             Intellectual and/or developmental disabilities in the Staunton, Waynesboro and Augusta County areas             in a way that:

  • is consistent with state and national Arc policies and objectives

  • provides strong moral and family support

  • assists with the development of community based services, living options and similar services.

  • coordinates with CSB’s, DSB’s, churches and others to improve service delivery systems

  • respects individual dignity, promotes self-determination and increases self-esteem, so that, the acceptance of people with intellectual disabilities in our service area is enhanced spiritually, physically, emotionally and mentally.

 

C.        DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. To advocate for the rights of individuals with an intellectual disability and for other agencies that provide services to those individuals.  As necessary, speak to government agencies or officials as the voice of those we serve.

  2. Fulfill fiduciary responsibility to the Board by paying annual membership dues of $20.00.  If possible, become a source of funds to The Arc of Augusta by joining the Friend of The Arc ($50), President’s Club ($100), Gold Member ($250) or an Advocate of The Arc ($500).  Also, support The Arc programs by participating in activities, assisting with fundraising efforts and providing maintenance of The Arc’s building and grounds.

  3. Always promote community awareness by letting others know: What The Arc does, who The Arc supports and the mission of The Arc.

  4. Chair or Co-Chair a minimum of one committee annually.

  5. Provide leadership and guidance to The Arc staff.

  6. Attend board meetings and group functions.

  7. Keep up with legislation that will support or affect ID individuals/families/caregivers.

  8. Other duties as may be needed to operate The Arc of Augusta.
