ABOUT

The Arc of Augusta, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDD) in Waynesboro, Staunton, and greater Augusta County since 1960. As the local chapter of The Arc of the US, we are part of a national network.

Originally focused on advocacy, The Arc collaborates with other chapters across Virginia and the United States to champion the civil and human rights of individuals with developmental disorders. Over the past 50 years, our chapter has evolved significantly, growing from a small group of parents advocating for their children to operating a school (prior to the establishment of special education in public schools), organizing summer camps, day programs, and becoming a prominent voice in local and state government. The Arc of Augusta has a proud history and an even brighter future!

Today, we offer a wide range of educational, social, recreational, and advocacy services. All of our clients have a primary diagnosis of an intellectual or developmental disability. Our chapter continues to advocate for changes in state and federal laws to benefit individuals with developmental disabilities, and we partner with numerous human service organizations within our service area.

Our belief in the potential of individuals with developmental disabilities drives our commitment to creating a world where everyone can embrace who they are, define their future, and contribute to the community.

 OUR MISSION
